ABSTRACT THE IMPACT OF SOCIAL COGNITION, EMPATHY AND CALLOUS-UNEMOTIONAL TRAITS IN VIOLENT TENDENCY OF MALE JUVENILE DELINQUENTS Introduction: The Concept of crime is defined as any ‘illegal behavior’ and children who are in conflict with the law for any reason can be defined as juvenile delinquency. The aim of this study is to examine the impact of individual factors such as social cognition, empathy, and callous-unemotional personality traits on the tendency to commit crimes in children who have been led into crime and the extent to which they influence violent tendencies in these children. Materials and Methods: The study is a cross-sectional analytical study conducted at the Istanbul Health Sciences University Erenköy Mental and Nervous Diseases Training and Research Hospital. The study included 121 boys who is juvenile delinquents (JD) and 121 healthy control group boys. The JD group consisted of boys who presented to the outpatient forensic psychiatry clinic, those staying at the Istanbul Children’s Education House, or those in the Istanbul Maltepe Children and Youth Closed Penal Institution. The aim of the study was to examine the impact of individual factors such as social cognition, empathy, and callous-unemotional personality traits on the tendency to commit crimes in these children and the extent to which they influence violent tendencies. During the study period from January 1, 2024, to May 31, 2024, all cases who applied were assessed using the Eyes Test for Mind Reading (Child Form), faul pax and control stories, and social cognition assessment. Empathy, callous-unemotional traits, and the level of violent tendencies were evaluated using the KASI Empathy Tendency Scale (Adolescent Form), the Callous-Unemotional Traits Screening Scale (Youth Version), and the Violence Tendency Scale, respectively. The Kiddie-Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia for School-Age ChildrenCurrent and Lifetime Version was administered to determine psychiatric disorders in the included children.
