2. ABSTRACT Investigation of Self Perception in Different Aspects Among Delinquent and Non-Delinquent Adolecents The aim of study was to investigate self perception levels and self control success among male adolescents who are 15-18 years of age which are convicts in prison and non- convicts who live with their families. A total of 80 adolescents, 40 of whom were staying in the "Maltepe Children and Youth Closed Penal Institution" and 40 adolescent from different state high schools, were included in the study. Self perception assessment form was used to evaluate the level of self perception which consist the quantitative a part of our study. For the self control assessment, SelfControl Question Form which consisting of unfinished question was used. Self control assessment was the qualitative part of our study. “Mann Whitney U” and “Kruskal Wallis H” tests were used to statistical analysis of self-perception assessment ın addition to the descriptive analysis. “Chi-Square” and “Spearmen Correlation” tests were used to analysis self-control. Significant differences were found between participants who stay in penal institution and who don’t stay penal institution regarding self perception assessment. It was concluded that the level of education and the type of execution and length of stay effected this difference between groups (p<0.05). In the questionnaire used in the self-control assessment, a significant difference was found only in 3 questions. It is observed that adolescents gave answer which can be qualified as “self-control failure” more frequenly (p<0.05). Key Words: Adolescent, Delinquency boy, Self perception, Self control. 2
